We'll be having a weekly link up on STEM Mom's blog soon, but just to get you in the spirit of things, here's what we did at our house for our first day:
We learned about verbs and adjectives, and filled out a sheet with words about worms for each (he dictated, I wrote).
He gave it a try with the words he can read:
We read the book Winnie Finn, Worm Farmer and talked about all the ways that worms can help us.
He did a maze: "Help the worm find the watermelon"
He spent quite a lot of time playing with the playdough mats I had printed and laminated (thanks, Twinkl!):
We also prepared a worm farm of our own. The layers:
Sand from the sandbox
leaves from the yard
coffee grounds
dirt from the garden
apple peels and broken pieces of corn
and mulch after Dad mowed the lawn
A pause for "dirt cup" snacks:
Then, the highlight of our day: a night hunt for worms in the garden!
They have been added, and we are probably the only family in town with a worm farm as their dining room centerpiece. I bet you're really wishing you could come for supper now, aren't you?
